THE TALES THAT START IT ALL

The Peony Blossom Deity - Li Bai

In the Tang Dynasty, Li Bai's gift for poetry was known far and wide across China. His collection of works, until today, remains as precious jewels and pearls of Chinese literature. His poems were desired by many, royalty included. So much so that Emperor Xuanzong wished to have him write a rare ode to his beloved concubine, Yang Guifei.

One of Li Bai's many verses for Yang Guifei reads, 'They admire each other, the beauty Fair and the fine (peony) Flower,' which greatly pleased Emperor Xuanzong. To reward Li Bai's talent, the Emperor gifted the poet the most glorious peonies of that blooming season as praises for Li Bai's exquisite verses and the beautiful ties of peony flowers in his poetry.

Li Bai's poems immortalizing the beauty of peonies have led people to regard him as the guardian deity of these flowers, often referred to as the 'Peony Blossom God.' Throughout Chinese history, men honor the beauty of their beloved ladies by likening it to that of a peony, dubbing them 'Peony Goddesses,' a reflective work of Li Bai's poem to Yang Guifei.

Our Infinite Blossom Longwear Liquid Eyeshadow in Bliss - a pastel plum shimmer with gold pearl - was drawn from the tale's legendary flower.

The Pomegranate Blossom Deity - Yang Guifei

May is a fickle month weather-wise, as it shuffles between spring and summer. While it might not be the time most eagerly anticipated, the Chinese await May with lighter hearts, knowing that the flowering of pomegranate blossoms is near.

To ensure good health and the ability to roam outside and admire pomegranate blossoms, the Chinese pray to Zhong Kui—the vanquisher of evil beings in Taoist mythology—for protection against wicked souls preying on healthy bodies.

Zhong Kui, renowned for his signature red attire reminiscent of the scarlet pomegranate blossom and his generous blessings bestowed upon the flower's admirers, is referred to as the Pomegranate Blossom Deity.

In May, women don red garments to call for the Pomegranate Blossom Deity's favor, hoping to be graced with divine guardianship so that they can freely express their beauty without worrying about malevolent spirits.

The richly saturated Rouge shade, our matte vibrant magenta pigment, pays homage to this red-hued tale.

The Lotus Flower Goddess - Xi Shi

Xi Shi was a woman of exceptional beauty. The first to be titled the Great Beauty of China, and historically known as one the prime instigators that brought down the state of Wu.

Though her name was bound to much greatness, Xi Shi had an impossibly modest lineage. Her family were firewood sellers in a small village, detached from the political scenes of Spring and Autumn China.

However, nods and whispers of her beauty circulated, capturing the interest of a local minister who was keen to discover the truth. Upon seeing Xi Shi, the minister enlisted her into his political party, thus commencing Xi Shi's journey in Wu.

It was said that Xi Shi was very fond of the lotus flower. In June, she often frequented Jinghu Lake to collect some fresh ones for her pleasure. In memory of Xi Shi, the Chinese affectionately named her the Lotus Flower Goddess.

Inspired by Xi Shi's mesmeric beauty that moved the landscape of Spring and Autumn China, the Cosmos shade of Infinite Blossom Longwear Liquid Eyeshadow radiates an icy blue-purple duo chrome brilliance that will pull at your heart, evoking excitement for changes and novel exploration.

THE "SUMMER BLOOMS" LOOK

Step 1: Lay a base

Set a blush veil all over your temple with the matte magenta (Rouge). And intensify the laydown on areas under the brow and the highest point of your cheek bones.

Step 2: Make lotus flowers bloom

With the same color, draw petals of the lotus flower overlapping/ blooming on the blush veil.

Top tip: Be gentle with the drawing strokes, but be bold with how big you'd like the lotus to be.

Step 3: Illuminate the flowers

Pin point the big petals, and highlight their silhouettes by employing the shine of pastel plum shimmer with gold pearl (Bliss).

Step 4: From beautiful to ethereal

Switch to the icy blue-purple duo chrome (Cosmos) and create a shooting star tail from the corner of your eye to your eye crease. Lightly blend out the seam for a natural, goddess-like gradient effect. Embellish the look with more shimmer on the lotus flowers as your artistry inspired.
