Unparalleled Talent: Florasis x China Academy of Art

As the first president of the China Academy of Art once wrote in an article titled "Hangzhou: The Beauty of Fine Arts," there are three types of beauty in Hangzhou: natural beauty, man-made beauty, and creative beauty. These three beauties form the core ethos of the China Academy of Art, and this year's National Art Academy Graduate Exhibit has been especially successful in cultivating a city-wide festival filled with boundless creative energy as well as an enlightening educational event.

Three Major Themes

In mid-April, Florasis collaborated with the China Academy of Art to issue a call to the young artists of the academy. They were urged to explore the aesthetics of Chinese garden landscapes through three major themes: "Garden Colors," "Garden Elegance," and "Garden Concealment," and use a plethora of artistic forms to express their imaginative creations.

Garden Colors

Drawing inspiration from the fleeting beauty of garden colors, this theme seeks to infuse modern aesthetics with eternal artistic vitality.

Garden Elegance

Embracing the refinement of the mind, this theme encourages the discovery of beauty in all things and nurturing a state of serenity within the soul.

Deeply rooted in Chinese culture, Eastern gardens represent a sanctuary for the soul, embodying the subtle and reserved beauty of the East, and the philosophical realm of concealing oneself within nature.

Outstanding Work From the China Academy of Art

From 1-15 June 2023, the "Eastern Garden" themed special exhibition, organized by Florasis and the China Academy of Art Graduation Exhibition, was held at the Hidden Villa flagship store. After a multidimensional and professional appraisal by an expert jury, 4 major awards and 19 winners were selected from over a hundred submissions from the China Academy of Art.

Garden Reflection by Gao Zixia

"The beauty of Chinese gardens is natural, profound, subtle, and a philosophical beauty."

Gao Zixia's fiber art piece titled "Garden Reflection" is a mixture of color and hidden elements imbued with natural elegance. Her unique abstract portrayal reflects her thoughts on Chinese gardens.

Cardamom Collection by Li Cui

Using flowers and plants as the medium of artistic expression, Li Cui's art attempts to break through traditional modes of representation and explore new forms of language, combining technique exploration with expressed inner emotions.

The Legend of the White Snake by Liang Jingyi

Through the reenactment of classic scenes from the traditional Yue opera "The Legend of the White Snake," Liang Jingyi uses oil-paper umbrellas as the medium and reconstructs a Yue opera stage. Showcasing Hangzhou's cultural symbols such as the Broken Bridge, Qingbo Gate, and Leifeng Pagoda, Hangzhou's charm is beautifully expressed.

Using AR (Augmented Reality) technology, Liang presents the poignant, touching story of Xu Xian and the White Snake in a refreshingly new format.

Visions of Lin'an by Zheng Jia

Hailing from a contemporary perspective, Zheng Jia's design combines dyeing and weaving with fashion technology. It integrates modern urban life and reshapes the beauty of contemporary Hangzhou gardens, reflecting the concept of "hiding from the world" in the ancient Southern Song Dynasty.
